The project

Project

Started in 2010

It was during the year of 2010 that the urge to produce wines in a region already filled history and wine tradition. The aim is to achieve the of two worlds: the respect the tradition and his origins no make-up or additives, producing wines freshness in a region known its continental and warm terroir. All the wines are produced minimalist intervention processes, promoting the respect the vineyard, its grape varieties and the sustainability of the process, guarantying the highest quality in all the production.

Vision

The world of wine is fascinating. to believe that in the four corners of the world there is a plant that adapts and develops in different soils, climates, altitudes and sun exposures. A plant that creates a fruit with shapes, aromas and different characteristics. A fruit that fermented produces wines with unique intensities, character and quality levels. The world of wine is vast. To be able to watch the potential of each grape in different terroirs produce an infinity of wines. To realize that grapes from the same vineyard, processed the same way but harvested in different times make different wines. To prove that from the same vineyard, same grape and same method the final product can be as different as the producer's creativity. The world of wine is challenging. we're all different and we can't make similar wines. the longevity of a project is associated to the quality of the product and the consistency of its production.

Mission

Learn with the past, have pride in the present and work towards the future.

There have been highs and lows in the first ten years of this project, smiles, tears and, above all, a learning curve.
When you plant a vineyard there are no certainties about the quality it will provide. It's a long way and year after year Nature can either be our ally or a challenge but harvest after harvest we learn more and more. We discover which parcel of the vineyard is the best and which parcel requires the most attention.
We need to learn how to see to act according to its needs. We need to learn how to make it suffer to produce what we want. The challenge is to produce a wine as big as our ideas. It demands experimentation, risk and patiente. It demands that we are ourselves, that we know where we want to go and to believe in our intuition. There are a thousand ways to produce a wine but from the idea to comsuption there are also a thousand steps to climb and we can either go up or fall down.

The vineyards

Terroir is a french word "cultivated extension of land" but in reality is much more than that. It is a collection of factors that influence the quality of a wine: soil, climate, grape varieties, viticulture, the weather and the producer's own philosophy.
Each grape variety its own characteristics, preferences and adaptability and it is crucial that we understand them in order to take the of both the soil and the grapes together.
Should use its knowledge and intuition to create the perfect match between all the factors and produce the wine he wishes. It's the different approaches to the different terroirs that make wine a wonderful world. In Estremoz we have two vineyards Miguel Louro Wines.
Em Estremoz temos duas vinhas diferentes que compõem o terroir dos Miguel Louro Wines:

The producer

Miguel Louro

"When I younger I wanted to be an innkeeper, today I want to sit at the table and share stories and knowledge some wine, bread and cheese. Life made me a wine producer. I've always been free to do what I wanted and I a happy child to have been able to grow in the countryside and a lucky teenager to have a cellar at home. The passion wine grew and to I express myself by making wine. Wine after wine, bottle after bottle, label after label, whatever I create, I do it as form of expression. It's I express myself a wine, a bottle or a label. It's I share what I like, what I think, what I do and what I feel."

estremoz

Land of Kings and Wines

Estremoz right in the of Alentejo and is famous its marble and clay dolls. Today it is a UNESCO's heritage and a place where wine production been widely developed in the last few decades. The vineyard area is growing due to the great weather, altitude and soil conditions in Estremoz. The typical continental climate cold and wet winters on one hand and and dry summers on the other. The Serra d'Ossa hill is also a major factor in quality by protecting the area from the warm winds of the south. The soils are mainly schist and clay and that also reflects in the quality of the wines produced here. We should praise all the winemakers in Estremoz their work in putting the town's wines on the as quality wines but Estremoz is a town of wine, is also a town of delicious and traditional products like the sheep cheeses, the pork sausages, the olive ils and historic and cultural heritage.
